Our Story

Our history may be short, but...

We have supported hundreds of young people in Sutton Coldfield and the surrounding areas since 2008. We know because we keep meeting them!

 

Jess, our Senior Youth Worker and Chelsey, our newest Trustee both came along to The Venue as teenagers.

The Gap story begins in 2008

It was recognised there was nothing for teenagers in Sutton Coldfield after school or college. They would wander the streets or meet in Sutton Town Centre and Gracechurch Shopping Centre.

2008

The Gap starts following concerns about the lack of activities and support for teenagers in Sutton Coldfield.

 

The Gap is born.

2011

David West-Mullen takes on the role of Project Manager.

2012

Volunteers and young people go on a Mission to work with children in Romania.

2014

The Venue receives a makeover thanks to Sutton Coldfield Municipal Charities.

2015

HeadSpace is launched to support a growing need in local schools for one to one mentoring. 

2016

The Gap holds its first Mental Health Awareness for Young People Day course.

2017

The Gap Studio is switched on and cranks up the volume.. 

2018

The Gap partners with the Anna Freud Mental Health Project for young people.

2021

The GapChat podcast begins. 

2023

The partnership with Riverside Academy in Erdington begins.

2024

Launch of new logo and website as part of the charity's drive to help more young people.

2025

The Gap RoadShow visits a number of local churches to explain who we are and what we do. We are holding a number of Workshops in the Easter holiday. David West-Mullen receives his award from the High Sheriff of West Midlands for his contribution to the local community and young people.
