Annual Safeguarding Training

Growing Together in Safeguarding

Recently, our whole Gap family — staff, volunteers, and trustees — came together for a dedicated safeguarding training session as part of our regular annual training programme. It was more than just an important update; it was a chance to pause, reflect, and recommit to the shared responsibility we all carry in creating safe spaces for young people.

Our Designated Safeguarding Lead, Lynda, led the session with clarity and care, guiding us through best practice while reminding us that safeguarding is ultimately about people — about noticing, listening, and responding with compassion and confidence.

Chloe brought a creative and collaborative energy to the day with activities centred around what makes an ideal team member. Together, we explored the key skills and qualities that build strong, effective teams — from communication and accountability to empathy and trust. It was a powerful reminder that safeguarding doesn’t sit with one person. It is so much stronger when we work well together and value the different strengths each of us brings.

Jess then introduced a range of real-life scenarios, inviting us to think carefully about how we would respond in different situations. These discussions were open and thoughtful, helping us learn from one another and grow in confidence as a team.

It was encouraging to see trustees, volunteers, and staff sitting side by side — united by a shared commitment to the wellbeing of the young people we serve. Moments like this don’t just build knowledge; they build culture, trust, and a deeper sense of purpose.

Safeguarding isn’t simply a policy at The Gap — it’s part of who we are. We’re grateful for the opportunity to learn together and continue strengthening the team that stands behind every young person who walks through our doors.
